Sonoma Coast PaintingsIn the Summer of 1998 I was "possessed" by the need to paint the rocks of the Northern California coastline from Bodega Bay to Jenner. I would get up early in the morning, go to the coast and set up my easel and paint while the fog slowly lifted. These rocks are commanding and ancient. Their energy is profound, dense and slow. I was aware that the length of my whole life was but a nanosecond in the consciousness of these prehistoric "beasts". When I brought the paintings home and meditated on them I saw a whole fantastic world of images and feelings emerge from them. I encourage you to meditate on these paintings and discover endless images from animals, to humans, to strange figures and buildings. They are telling a story I have yet to unravel. Perhaps some of earth's drama is etched in these stone records. Perhaps it is nature's own Rorschach test admirably mirroring the current consciousness of the viewer. |
